We’ve had a tremendous surge in membership in the past two months. We now have 97 active members, up from 72 at the beginning of October. The Board has decided to close off membership to nonresidents until the beginning of next year. The Board feels obligated to allow Litchfield residents to join during the freeze.
In September, the Board decided to charge a $10 Recurring Fee to all members, residents and nonresidents. A notice will go out in mid December and all Recurring Fees will have to be paid by January 15th. For snowbirds in FL, you will be dropped from the active Roster if the Fee is not paid in January. If, upon your return in the spring, the club is still at capacity, your reinstatement to active status is not assured.
We think we have many members who haven’t been terribly active recently, so the Recurring Fee is a means of culling these inactive members. If the new expanded schedules work out and potential trimming of the Roster occurs, the Board will reconsider its decision in January.
The Recurring Fee income from all members is earmarked for the Litchfield Recreation Commission, who has spent handsomely to refurbish Talent Hall (new roof, new paint, and refurbished bathrooms). We are fortunate to have their support and the Board feels we must maintain our [modest] contribution to help defray a portion of their expenses.
